Crocheted Scarf Instructions

When “the weather outside is frightful,” there is nothing like a crocheted scarf made by loving hands to make someone feel warm all over. In the cold winter months ahead, there are many who will need special care. Pick up a kit and crochet some warmth into a gift of love.


BYU Women’s Conference 2012
Weave Pattern Crocheted Scarf
Level: Easy to Intermediate
Finished size 6”X 6’


Directions:
Ch 19. 
Row 1.  Dc in third ch from hook, dc in each ch across.  Ch 2.  Turn.  (19 dc sts)
Row 2. Dc in first st, * fpdc in next 2 st, bpdc in next 2 st.  Repeat from * to the last two sts in the row.  Fpdc in second to last st, dc in last st.  Ch 2.  Turn.  Repeat row 2 until scarf is desired length.  Finish off and weave in loose ends.

Helps:
ch=chain
dc= double crochet
st(s)=stitche(s)
fpdc= front post double crochet
bpdc= back post double crochet

Front post double crochet (fpdc):

This stitch is worked in the row below. Yarn over and insert hook from front to back around post in the stitch below. Complete the double crochet stitch as usual.





Back post double crochet (bpdc):

This stitch is worked in the row below.  Yarn over and insert hook from back to front around post in the stitch below.  Complete the double crochet stitch as usual.

Ribbed Scarf
Level: Easy
Finished size: 6-8” X 6’


Directions:
Ch 201. 
Row 1:  Sc in second ch from hook and in each ch across, ch 1 (200 sc st)
Row 2:  Working in back loop only (blo) , sc in each sc across, ch 1, turn.  Repeat to desired width.  Finish off after approximately 6-8” wide.  Weave in loose ends.

This scarf could also be done using the double crochet stitch.

Back Loop Only (blo):
Crocheting in the back loop only forms a ridge on the front of your work. This is done simply by inserting your hook in the back loop only (the loop farthest from you) to create your stitches.

ch=chain
sc= single crochet
st(s)=stitch(s)
blo= back loop only

Basic Double
Level: Easy
Finished size: 6” X 65”

Directions:
Ch 17 loosely.
Row 1:  Sc in second ch from hook and each ch across. (16 sc)
Row 2:  Ch 2 (counts as first dc), turn; dc in each sc across row. (16 dc)
Row 3:  Ch1, turn; sc in each dc across. (16 dc)
Repeat rows 2 and 3 alternating between sc and dc rows to desired length.
Finish off and weave in ends.

Cozy Scarf
Level: Easy

Directions: 
Ch 17.
Row 1:  Sc in 2nd ch from hook, dc in next ch, *sc in next ch, dc in next ch*, repeat from asterisks 6 times,  ch 1, turn.   (16 st)
Row. 2:  Sc in first dc, dc in next sc, *sc in next dc, dc in next sc*, repeat from asterisks 6 times,  ch 1 turn.    (16 st)
Repeat row 2 until scarf is desired length, finish off.  Weave in ends.

Picot Edge - Optional
Attach yarn in first stitch on end of scarf, sc, ch 3, sl st in top of sc, sc in next st, *sc, ch 3, sl st in top of sc, sc in next st*, repeat 6 times, fasten off, weave in ends.
